Hot Artist: Betty Davis
Between glam rock and disco, the '70s saw its share of freaks, but there were few freakier than Betty Davis think Tina Turner's outré performing flair with a dress sense from Neptune instead of Nutbush. She was one of the few women capable of taming Miles Davis (they were married for a short while, and she reportedly introduced him to Sly Stone as well as Jimi Hendrix), and she recorded three outrageous and outrageously good LPs during the mid-'70s before a very surprising, quiet retirement. Now, as Light in the Attic reissues her first two albums, Betty Davis and They Say I'm Different (with remastering, bonus tracks, and liner notes from Oliver Wang), AMG takes the time to spotlight one of the finest and freakiest funk artists in history.
