Of all the improbable elements in the St. Louis Cardinals championship run last fall, none was more shocking than the emergence of Jeff Weaver as a reliable playoff starter. Weaver's short but impressive stint as a gutty pressure pitcher earned him an $8.3M deal with the Mariners for this season.
